Rhodes

Rhodes is the largest of Greece's Dodecanese islands and their historical capital, the ninth largest island in the Mediterranean, in the South Aegean region northeast of Crete; the city of Rhodes had 50,636 inhabitants at the 2011 census. The island was historically famous for the Colossus of Rhodes, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, was ruled by the Knights Hospitaller from 1310 to 1522 as the Island of the Knights, and became one of Europe's most popular tourist destinations in the early 21st century.
