Stagira

Stagira was an ancient Greek city on the Chalkidiki peninsula in Macedonia, best known as the birthplace of the philosopher Aristotle in 384 BC. Originally founded as a colony of Andros, the city was destroyed by Philip II of Macedon during his campaigns and later reportedly rebuilt at Aristotle's own request as a condition of his tutoring of Alexander the Great. Its ruins sit on a peninsula near the modern village that today bears the philosopher's name.
