Stryme

Stryme was an ancient Greek city on the south coast of ancient Thrace, in what is now Greece, a little west of Mesembria, with the small river Lissus flowing between the two. The army of Xerxes I is said to have drunk the river dry. Stryme was founded by colonists from Thasos, though disputes later arose between the Thasians and the people of the neighbouring city of Maroneia over its possession. Some ancient sources describe Stryme as a Thasian polis bordering Mesambria, though the account given by Herodotus is contradictory on this point. The city stood in the Briantike, a region belonging to the Thracian Kikones.
