Thyssus

Thyssus, also spelled Thyssos, was a town of ancient Chalcidice in Macedon, in what is now northern Greece, situated on the Acte peninsula now known as Mount Athos. The historian Thucydides describes its population, like those of neighboring towns on the peninsula, as a mix of Chalcidian Greeks and other peoples including Pelasgians and Edoni, and the town appears in Athenian tribute records as a member of the Delian League between 454 and 429 BC. Thyssus sided with the Spartan commander Brasidas against Athens in 424 and 423 BC, and its site is located near the modern settlement of Skala Zographou.
