Buda

Buda is the part of Budapest, the capital of Hungary, lying on the western bank of the Danube, historically referring specifically to the royal walled city on Castle Hill. King Bela IV built its fortress and palace between 1247 and 1249, and Buda became capital of the Kingdom of Hungary in 1361, retaining that status until 1873, when it was administratively unified with Pest and Obuda to form modern Budapest, ending the separate municipal existence of Buda. Landmarks from its history as an independent city include the Royal Palace, Matthias Church, the Citadella, the Gellert Baths and Sandor Palace, now the residence of the president of Hungary.
