Szigetvar is a town of about 12,000 people in Baranya County in southern Hungary, whose name combines the Hungarian words for island and castle. It is best known for the siege of 1566 during Sultan Suleiman's campaign, when the fortress fell on September 7 or 8 after a defense remembered for the final charge of Nikola Zrinski and his men, one day after Suleiman himself died of natural causes outside its walls. The Hungarian Parliament granted the town the title Civitas Invicta in October 2011.
