Tiszaujvaros is an industrial town in Borsod-Abauj-Zemplen county in northern Hungary, about 35 kilometers southeast of Miskolc near the river Tisza, with approximately 18,021 residents as of 2009. Built on the outskirts of the older village of Tiszaszederkeny as a socialist planned city established in 1955, it officially became a town in 1966 and changed its name twice, in 1970 and again in 1991. It now serves as an industrial center and seat of Tiszaujvaros District, with sister-city relationships across Ukraine, China, Germany, Romania, Austria, Slovakia, and Poland.
