Garðabær

Gardabaer is a town and municipality in the Capital Region of Iceland, and is the fifth largest municipality in the country with a population of 20,116 as of January 2025 across 46 square kilometers. The site has been inhabited since the initial settlement of Iceland in the 9th century, with the medieval Landnamabok referencing two early farms in the area, Vifilsstadir and Skulastadir. The modern settlement was established in 1878 and received market town rights on January 1, 1976.
