Crotone

Crotone is a city and comune in Calabria, Italy, founded around 710 BC as the Achaean colony of Croton, which became a great Greek city, home to the mathematician and philosopher Pythagoras among other famous citizens, and one of the most important centres of Magna Graecia. It was known as Cotrone from the Middle Ages until 1928, when its name changed to the current form, and in 1992 it became the capital of the newly established Province of Crotone.
