Engyon was an ancient town in the interior of Sicily, in the region then known as Magna Graecia, said by the historian Diodorus Siculus to have been founded as a Cretan colony. It was known in antiquity for a temple of the Magna Mater said to have been brought from Crete, a shrine whose wealth later attracted the greed of the Roman governor Verres.
