Metauros

Metauros was an ancient city of Magna Graecia on the right bank of the Metauro River, on the site of the modern town of Gioia Tauro in Calabria, Italy. Founded in the seventh century BCE by settlers from Zancle, it grew into a significant commercial and cultural center of Magna Graecia; some ancient traditions describe it instead as a sub-colony of Zancle or a joint foundation of Rhegion and Zancle that later came under Locrian influence, while another attributes its founding directly to settlers from Locri.
