Naxos was an ancient Greek city of Magna Graecia, on the site of present-day Giardini Naxos near Taormina on the eastern coast of Sicily. Founded in 734 or 735 BC by colonists from the Greek island of Naxos and the city of Chalcis in Euboea, it is regarded as the earliest of the Greek colonies in Sicily.
