Pandosia (Epirus)

Pandosia was an ancient Greek city in Epirus, one of a group of colonies founded by settlers from Elis alongside Bucheta and Elatea, sited south of the river Acheron though its precise location remains debated; the village of Kastri is most often identified with the site today. Philip of Macedon conquered the city and gave it to his son Alexander I of Epirus, who was warned by an oracle to beware of Pandosia and the river Acheron but instead died at a different Battle of Pandosia in Italy, where an identically named city stood. Archaeological surveys in 1994 recorded an extensive 33 hectare site with more than 85,000 finds.
