Selinunte

Selinunte was an ancient Greek city on the southwestern coast of Sicily, founded by colonists from Megara Hyblaea in the seventh century BC. It grew into one of the wealthiest cities in Sicily, known for its monumental temple complex, before being destroyed by Carthage in 409 BC and abandoned after further conflict in the third century BC. The site today preserves one of the largest collections of Greek temple ruins in the Mediterranean, spread across several distinct temple hills.
