Madona is a town in the Vidzeme region of Latvia and the center of Madona Municipality. Its name comes either from the adjacent Madona Lake or from the German name Madohn or Modohn for the nearby Birzi Manor. The settlement grew up around a railway station established in 1903, received village privileges in 1921 and town rights in 1926. It had a population of about 6,502 across roughly 10.41 square kilometers.
