Brielle, also called Den Briel in Dutch and Brill in English, is a town and historic seaport in the province of South Holland, Netherlands, on the north side of the island of Voorne-Putten at the mouth of the New Maas, with a population of 17,439 in January 2021. The town played a significant role in the Eighty Years' War: the Capture of Brielle by Protestant rebels on April 1, 1572, marked a turning point in the Dutch revolt against Spanish rule and is still celebrated annually.
