Pannonian Basin, also known as the Carpathian Basin, is a large lowland sedimentary basin in southeastern Central Europe that forms the core territory of the historical Kingdom of Hungary. It lies within parts of nine countries, with Hungary situated entirely inside it and Slovakia, Poland, Ukraine, Romania, Serbia, Croatia, Slovenia, and Austria each holding a share, and is ringed by the Carpathians to the north and east, the Dinaric Alps to the south, and the Alps to the west.
