Biskupiec

Biskupiec is a town in the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship of northern Poland, in the historical region of Warmia, within Olsztyn County. It had a population of about 10,496 in December 2021 and lies in the Masurian Lake District, an area popular with tourists. Its name comes from the prince-bishops of Warmia, who built a castle there in the late fourteenth century, and it received town privileges in 1395. The town suffered destruction in various wars and was under German administration until 1945, when it was transferred back to Poland. It is distinct from another Polish town of the same name in Nowe Miasto County.
