Wachock is a small town in Starachowice County, Swietokrzyskie Voivodeship, in south central Poland, with 2,760 residents at the 2006 census across 16.02 square kilometers. First mentioned in records from 1179 and home to a 13th century Cistercian abbey that became one of the region's richest institutions, it was granted a town charter in 1454 by King Casimir IV Jagiellon, stripped of city status by Russian authorities in 1869 as punishment for supporting the January Uprising, and only regained it in 1994.
