Histria (ancient city)

Histria, also called Istros, was founded as a Greek colony on the western coast of the Black Sea near the mouth of the Danube, whose banks now lie about 70 kilometers away. It also carried the ancient names Istropolis, Istriopolis, and Histriopolis, and its remains now sit on the inland shore of the Black Sea lagoon Lake Sinoe, north of Navodari and near the modern Romanian town of Istria in Dobruja.
