Trenčín is a city in western Slovakia in the central Váh River valley, about 95 kilometers from Bratislava near the Czech border. With a population of more than 55,000 it is the eighth-largest municipality in the country and serves as the seat of the Trenčín Region and Trenčín District. A medieval fortress, Trenčín Castle, stands on a rock overlooking the city.
