Iluro (Hispania Tarraconensis)

Iluro was a Roman town on the coast of Hispania Tarraconensis, on the site of the present-day city of Mataro in Catalonia, Spain. Founded in the early first century BC as part of the Roman reorganization of the Catalan coast, it was recorded by Pliny the Elder as a settlement of Roman citizens and was later raised to the rank of municipium. Laid out on a regular grid plan, it remained a small but active community into late antiquity, when its urban center gave way to scattered settlement in the sixth and seventh centuries AD.
