Agaunum was a Roman era outpost in what is now the Swiss canton of Valais, the predecessor of the modern city of Saint Maurice, where the Roman Empire collected the Quadragesima Galliarum tax and which Christian tradition holds to be the site of the martyrdom of the Theban Legion.
