The Black Sea Region

The Black Sea Region is the group of countries bordering the Black Sea, comprising Turkey, Bulgaria, Romania, Ukraine, Russia and Georgia, straddling the boundary between Europe and Asia. Long a crossroads of Greek, Ottoman, Russian and Slavic influence, the region today is bound by shared maritime trade, energy pipelines and post-Soviet geopolitics, and is distinct from the Black Sea itself, which the atlas holds as its own body-of-water entity.
