Volodymyr is a small city in Volyn Oblast in northwestern Ukraine, serving as the administrative center of Volodymyr Raion and the hub of the Volodymyr urban hromada. It is one of the most ancient cities in Ukraine and was the historic center of the Volhynia region, serving as capital of the Principality of Volhynia and later as one of the major capitals of the Kingdom of Galicia-Volhynia. It had a population of about 37,910 and was known as Volodymyr-Volynskyi from 1944 until it was renamed to its current form in 2021.
