Lancaster, Lancashire

Lancaster is a historic city in Lancashire, England, on the River Lune about three miles inland from Morecambe Bay. It is the county town of Lancashire and the main cultural and economic center of the City of Lancaster district, with a population of 52,660 at the 2021 census. The history of the city includes a Roman fort, Lancaster Castle, and the Ashton Memorial, and it was a significant port for the transatlantic slave trade of the 18th century, ranked as the fourth busiest slaving port in the country. Lancaster is also home to Lancaster University, a research university founded in 1964.
