Doubtful Sound

Fjords

A fjord in the Fiordland region of New Zealand's South Island, so named by the explorer James Cook, who was uncertain whether it was navigable under sail. Steep, rainforest-covered cliffs and abundant rainfall give it a notably remote and dramatic character.
