A tongue-shaped mass of rock debris mixed with and lubricated by interstitial ice, creeping slowly downslope much like a true glacier of exposed ice, found in cold mountain environments where debris supply is high relative to snowfall. Rock glaciers are mantled entirely in rock rather than exposed ice, which can make them easy to mistake for an ordinary talus slope until their slow, glacier-like movement is measured.
