Oceanic Trench

A long, narrow, extremely deep depression in the ocean floor, formed where one tectonic plate is forced beneath another at a subduction zone and bends sharply downward before descending into the mantle. The Mariana Trench, the deepest point in any ocean, is the type example most often cited for this landform.
