Mid-Ocean Ridge

A continuous underwater mountain range running through the ocean basins, marking the boundary where two tectonic plates diverge and new oceanic crust is continuously created as magma rises to fill the gap between them. The global mid-ocean ridge system is the longest continuous mountain chain on Earth, though almost entirely hidden beneath the sea.
