A flat-topped seamount, its summit planed level by wave erosion while it still stood at or near the ocean surface, before subsequent subsidence carried it down to its present, fully submerged depth. Guyots are common across the Pacific Ocean floor and record the same island-subsidence history that produces atolls from once-active volcanic islands.
