An isolated pillar of rock standing offshore, separated from the mainland coastline, left behind after the collapse of a sea arch's roof or the complete erosion of the softer rock that once connected it to the headland beside it. Sea stacks are a common and dramatic feature of rocky coastlines shaped by long-term wave erosion, seen from Australia's Twelve Apostles to Ireland's sea cliffs.
