A flat or gently sloping rock surface extending out from the base of a retreating sea cliff, exposed at low tide, marking the level at which wave erosion has planed away the rock as the cliff line above it has retreated landward over time. A wave-cut platform records, in its width, how far a coastline has eroded back from its earlier position.
