Volcanic Mountain

Mountain Ranges and Massifs

A mountain built entirely or chiefly from the accumulated products of volcanic eruption, whether a single cone-shaped edifice or a chain of such peaks along a volcanic arc or hot spot track, rather than from the folding or faulting of pre-existing rock. Its final shape, from a broad shield to a steep symmetrical cone, depends on the composition and eruptive style of the magma that built it.
