Dangriga

Dangriga is the capital of Stann Creek District on the Caribbean coast of Belize and the country's largest town outside greater Belize City. It is widely regarded as the cultural center of Belize's Garifuna people, descendants of West African and Carib and Arawak ancestry resettled on the Central American coast in the early nineteenth century, and the town hosts major Garifuna Settlement Day celebrations each November 19. Dangriga's economy rests on fishing, citrus growing in the surrounding valley, and a growing tourism trade tied to nearby cayes.
