Vaughan is a city in the Regional Municipality of York, Ontario, Canada, immediately north of Toronto, with 323,103 residents at the 2021 census, the fifth largest city in the Greater Toronto Area and Canada's seventeenth largest overall. It grew explosively in the late twentieth century, with its population rising 80.2 percent between 1996 and 2006 and nearly doubling since 1991, as farmland gave way to suburban development on Toronto's northern edge.
