Guadeloupe is an overseas department and region of France in the Caribbean, part of the Lesser Antilles'' Leeward Islands. It is an archipelago of more than 12 islands, islets and rocks situated where the northeastern Caribbean Sea meets the western Atlantic Ocean. Its capital is Basse-Terre. Its total land area across the archipelago is about 1,628 square kilometres (629 square miles), and its population as of January 2024 stood at 378,561 residents.
