Escuintla

Escuintla is the capital of Escuintla department in southern Guatemala, on the Pacific coastal plain a short distance inland from the port of Puerto San Jose. It grew as a commercial and transport hub for the surrounding lowlands, which produce sugarcane, cattle and tropical fruit, and it sits along the principal highway connecting Guatemala City to the Pacific coast. The city's warm, humid lowland climate distinguishes it sharply from the cooler highland cities further north.
