Huehuetenango

Huehuetenango is the capital of Huehuetenango department in the western highlands of Guatemala, close to the border with Mexico's Chiapas state. The surrounding department is one of Guatemala's most ethnically and linguistically diverse, home to several Mayan-language communities including Mam, Qanjobal and Popti, and the city serves as their principal commercial and administrative center. It lies in a mountainous zone near the Cuchumatanes range, among the highest non-volcanic mountains in Central America.
