Puerto Cortes

Puerto Cortes is a city and Honduras's principal Caribbean port, in Cortes department at the mouth of the Ulua River near the Bay of Honduras. It handles the large majority of the country's maritime container traffic and serves the industrial Sula Valley economy behind it, including San Pedro Sula. The natural deep-water harbor was developed for banana and general cargo export from the late nineteenth century onward, and the surrounding area also includes beaches and mangrove wetlands.
