The capital of the Mexican state of Yucatan and seat of its eponymous municipality, located about 35 kilometers inland from the Gulf of Mexico coast on the northwest corner of the Yucatan Peninsula. Its 2020 population was 921,770, while its metropolitan area, which also includes the cities of Kanasin and Uman, reached 1,316,090.
