The capital and largest city of the Mexican state of Queretaro, most commonly known simply as Queretaro, in the Bajio macroregion of central Mexico about 213 kilometers northwest of Mexico City. Seat of the municipality of Queretaro and divided into seven boroughs, its historic center was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1996.
