Xalapa, also spelled Jalapa and officially Xalapa-Enriquez, is the capital city of the Mexican state of Veracruz and gives its name to the surrounding municipality. The 2020 census recorded a city population of 443,063 and a municipal population of 488,531 across an area of 118.45 square kilometers. Xalapa lies near the geographic center of the state and is its second-largest city after the city of Veracruz to the southeast.
