Montserrat is a British Overseas Territory in the Caribbean, part of the Leeward Islands in the Lesser Antilles chain, about 25 miles southwest of Antigua. The island is about 16 km long and 11 km wide, with roughly 40 km of coastline. Its capital is Plymouth by law, though the town has been abandoned since volcanic eruptions in the 1990s, with government functions currently seated at Brades. Its land area is about 102 square kilometres, and its 2024 estimated population was 4,399.
