La Chorrera is a city in Panama Oeste province, west of Panama City across the Panama Canal, and one of the fastest-growing urban areas in the Panama City metropolitan region. It takes its name from a waterfall on the Caimito River that once powered colonial-era mills, and the city today functions increasingly as a commuter and industrial satellite of the capital, linked by the Pan-American Highway and the Bridge of the Americas corridor. Panama Oeste province was itself created in 2014 by dividing the former Panama province, with La Chorrera as its capital.
