Kent is a city in King County, Washington, United States, and part of the Seattle metropolitan area. It had a population of 136,588 at the 2020 census, making it the fourth-most populous municipality in greater Seattle and the sixth-most populous in Washington. The city is linked to Seattle, Bellevue and Tacoma by State Route 167, Interstate 5, Sounder commuter rail and commuter buses. Hops grown in the White River Valley once earned the area the name Hop Capitol of the West. Kent was incorporated on May 28, 1890, the second city incorporated in King County after Seattle, and is generally divided into the West Hill, Valley and East Hill areas.
