Mesa is a city in Maricopa County, Arizona, with a population of about 504,000 at the 2020 census, making it the third most populous city in Arizona after Phoenix and Tucson. Part of the Phoenix metropolitan area, Mesa was originally settled by Mormon pioneers in the 1870s and has since grown into a major center for higher education, aerospace manufacturing and healthcare in the East Valley.
