Stamford is a city in Fairfield County, Connecticut, United States, 34 miles outside New York City. It is the sixth most populous city in New England, the largest city in the Western Connecticut Planning Region, and Connecticut's second most populous city behind Bridgeport. Its population reached 135,470 at the 2020 census, surpassing Hartford and New Haven, and it lies within the Bridgeport-Stamford-Danbury metropolitan statistical area, itself part of the New York City metropolitan area.
