The United States Virgin Islands are an unincorporated and organized territory of the United States, located about 40 miles east of Puerto Rico in the Leeward Islands of the Lesser Antilles. The islands are geographically part of the Virgin Islands archipelago. Their capital is Charlotte Amalie. Their combined land area is about 346.4 square kilometres (133.73 square miles), and their 2020 census population was 87,146, spread mainly across the islands of Saint Thomas, Saint Croix and Saint John.
