Foothill

Peaks and Summits

A low hill at the base of a larger mountain or mountain range, forming the transitional zone between the flat lowland and the steep high terrain above. Foothills are typically built from the same rock sequence as the range they border, uplifted and eroded to a gentler relief than the peaks behind them.
